Suggested new feature or improvement

Users should be able to better filter apps based on tags and package type. Goal is to have an improved design + better searching functionality.

Scenario

A user could filter for specific packages to see in the app installation flow search (e.g. 'Gaming Development') to only better show packages that are relevant to their search.

Need to also consider situations for the following actions:

  • A user wants to update an app
  • A user wants to repair an app (dependency on winget repair)

WinGet doesn't have a notion of "categories".

The challenge is figuring out the right list of them and how we manage that list over time. There are also concerns about how many categories a package can be included in.
