📝 Provide a description of the new feature

We already have the start menu that allows us to do basically the same thing that Run currently does (launch a new instance of the application.) To make more use of Run, we need to make it work differently.. basically convert it to an optional task switch, and runner.

What is the expected behavior of the proposed feature? What is the scenario this would be used?
We need to make use of Run by making it a little different:

  • Launch a new instance if no instance of application is currently running.
  • Switch to running instance if application is already running.

If you'd like to see this feature implemented, add a 👍 reaction to this post.

Would be nice to have an option to make that the default. Without needing the extra character.
But thank you, I didn't know about this before

This was asked in #3169. But the guy who made that issue was satisfied with the "<". That's why I am not sure whether should I close this as dup. /cc @crutkas

I'd like to not have to enter < to switch between open applications by default either. Makes it less intuitive to actually use, compared to something like WindowWalker or Switcheroo

Same here, I also don't want to have to type "<". I just want to get to my application of interest, I don't care if it's already running or not. Just get me there by showing the already open instance or opening a new one. Also, in most cases I already have an open instance and just want to switch fast between them. With the "<" it's not that fast anymore. ):
