📝 Description

Windows 10 already has a clipboard history which can be enabled and viewed using "Winkey+V" combo. My request is to expand its features via PowerToys. Advanced Clipboard Copy would allow you to selectively hold things in the clipboard history depending on the key combo used to copy.

What is the expected behavior of the proposed feature? What is the scenario this would be used?

  • When clipboard history is enabled, using "Ctrl+C" does a regular copy and puts it to the clipboard.
  • Using "Winkey+C" performs a copy but does not add it to clipboard history. This is useful if copy-pasting sensitive information which you do not want persisted in the history. Also useful for large chunks of data/media which you do not want persisted in memory.
  • Using "Winkey+C+Shift" combo adds to the clipboard history and pins it so that it does not get removed upon restart. Users can do this currently using mouse clicks in the clipboard history pane (i.e. "Winkey+V") but I don't think this can be done with key combo.

If you'd like to see this feature implemented, add a 👍 reaction to this post.

You ideas may extend #3768

Win+C is the shortcut for launching the FancyZones editor

Sorry I was on v0.20.1 and the key shortcut for the FancyZones editor on mine is Win+`. Regarding #3768, yes I had not seen that, and this could be an extension of that.

@alannt777 I just updated to v0.23.2 and my key combo for FancyZones is still Win+` so I do not see a conflict in what I proposed originally. Could you please check.

Oops. I think I made a mistake. The wiki says that Win+` is the default shortcut

@akulmehta Win+C is the shortcut for launching Cortana, if anyone uses that thing.

I am ok with having different key combos. My point was more to do with the idea to be able to use keyboard shortcuts to do stuff with the clipboard which currently you have to do using the mouse.
