A messy title but bear with me. It is much easier to explain this with examples.

A quick definition:
A power chord in terms of a keyboard shortcut is a key combination that uses 3 modifier keys in addition to the deciding key.
For example: Ctrl + Shift + Alt + D

I'd like to see these powerchords added:

  • Win + Ctrl + Shift + deciding key
  • Win + Ctrl + Alt + deciding key
  • Win + Shift + Alt + deciding key

My suggestion is this:

  1. Add the button "Map power chords" to Keyboard Manager (as a third option after "Remap a key" and "Remap a shortcut")
  2. When clicked, a window with a keyboard view is shown, with three tabs (one for each of the aforementioned power chords)
  3. Click a tab -> click a button on the virtual keyboard (the view)
  4. A dialogue appears, where user can select an action, file, file shortcut, etc. Ideally, anything that can be opened through PowerToys Run would be mappable
  5. Your power chord is now mapped and enabled
  6. Press the power chord to launch program/open file/web page, etc.

Additionally, on the Shortcut Guide side of things:

  1. User long presses Win-key to open Shortcut Guide overlay
  2. User can then long presses the modifiers
  3. The overlay/view updates to reflect all shortcuts mapped to this power chord

This would:

  • Make way for {numberKeys + letterKeys * 3} 10 + 26 * 3 = 88 new mappable hotkeys (not counting symbols)
  • Make it fast, easy, and straight forward to set up your workstation in a way that gives you instant access to everything you could think of
  • Let you find the power chord you forgot in no time

Thank you for reading.
Let me know if anything is unclear. I will photoshop some example views when I have the time.

Oh, sorry. I couldn't find any similar suggestions when looked for it.
Glad to hear that it's been suggested though!
