Events being sent to homeserver that has left the room

Description

My homeserver (ilmari.org) is still receiving events for #matrix:matrix.org from lots of homeservers (including matrix.org) despite me having left the room weeks ago.

Steps to reproduce

• be joined to #matrix:matrix.org
• leave because homeserver is being overloaded

The logs are still showing lots of PDUs, typing updates, and receipts lots of different homeservers, but mostly matrix.org

Is someone able to see if the homeserver in question is still in the room from other servers' point of view?

can confirm that matrix.org still sees @ilmari:ilmari.org in the room, so presumably the leave never propagated to other servers.

Have kicked that user from the room which will hopefully solve this problem.

@richvdh That's because I had (accidentally, but successfully, after about an hour of Synapse churning the CPU and DB) re-joined the room last week. Let's hope it takes less time this time around.
