I previously used the Ubuntu Handbook PPA version of Liferea on Ubuntu 13.10. When I started Liferea, it would appear in the Messaging Menu (the same indicator as Empathy, Pidgin et al). After upgrading to 14.04, it no longer appears in the Messaging Menu.

(Tested with main repo version, and Ubuntu Handbook PPA version.)

This will be solved by removing the trayicon support and replacing it with an optional plugin that supports only GNOME classic. The user will have to manually enable it. Additionally the hiding to tray icon will be removed as this causes heavy problems with GNOME shell.

Fix (removal) will be released with 1.11.0

It seems to work for me with default provided Liferea 1.10.3 on Ubuntu 14.04

It heavily depends on your configuration if it becomes visible. It is just not reliable anymore :-(

Well the only configuration that I took was opting in the option in liferea preferences.
