Organizing flight files

All raw files need to be in the edit_data file for the survey day labeled as follows:

  • One-flight days: [YYMMDD].gps, [YYMMDD].eff, [YYMMDD].sig
  • Multi-flight days: [YYMMDD].gps, [YYMMDD (1)].eff, [YYMMDD (2)].eff, [YYMMDD (1)].sig, [YYMMDD (2)].sig, etc. You can have as many UNIQUE sig, eff, and gps files as you want (in case VOR crashed), but only include one .gps file if it includes all location data from all flights.

Select all files (ctrl-a) and right click to rename all files YYMMDD. This will automatically put all files in the needed format (remember to double check the GPS file on multi-flight days).

Loading flight files into the App

1. Choosing the file pathway

  • The “Network” option is the default for use at the office or over VPN.
  • The “Local” option is for use off network when VPN is not available (when surveys are done out of the country) or in a shiny EMERGENCY. If you are looking locally, the pathway you enter should be the pathway to the folder where the edit files are stored.

2. Enter the survey date as YYMMDD.

3. Enter the tail number for the plane that was used on this survey (e.g. 57)

4. Edited eff/sig files: “Yes” means you have edits that you have done before and you would like to load in. “No” means this is the first time you are looking at this data or you want to start from scratch with the raw files – your old edits will be overwritten.

5. Click “Edit Raw Eff & Sig”
