So with the many years I have been running Subsonic and now close to moving to Airsonic, one annoyance has always been video playback.
Since FlowPlayer has seemingly been forced to only accept h264 video with AAC audio, ffmpeg transcoding often gets started even though browsers nowadays can play things just fine. Yet FlowPlayer forces unnecessary transcoding on the video anyways.
Feature
So with that said, would it not be a better solution to let the user choose or even allow to use HTML5
I do know that it is handy for Chromecast support and such but still, that probably has other solutions now as well and the transcoding options can be useful but not for everyone. Thus, an option to switch or other solutions would be a huge improvement for ease of use and video/audio quality.
With the world moving to AV1 and h265 being well-established now, the enforcement of h264 video with AAC (Or at least I think so) audio can get a bit annoying by needing to re-transcode literally everything in the library.
I do not suppose many use Airsonic / Subsonic and its variants for video but for those two do it could be huge improvement. Until then, DSub or external player (Make a folder for each movie or recording, then click on the big icon of the folder, not the file inside the folder) 'works' as well so that FlowPlayer does not interrupt anything.
