It is still possible to copy and paste locked cells which causes students to insert nbgrader cells with duplicate cell ids - breaking the validation and autograding process.
As a side note, locked markdown cells can also still be edited with keyboard shortcuts (ex: 1, 2, 3 which alter the markdown header of the first line of the cell) and it isn't easy to revert the cell back to its original state without having to edit the cell metadata.
Some interesting proposals are a button to revert a cell back to its "release" state or to fix some of these edge cases.

Hmm, I thought when cells were copied the metadata from them was dropped, but perhaps not---and it's definitely a problem otherwise. However I think these are bugs though with the notebook itself rather than nbgrader---would you mind opening up an issue on the notebook repo and linking to it here so we can track it?
