The quality/ability/extent of being usable.

Usability (system quality attribute, non-functional requirement, cross-functional constraint)

Usability in systems refers to the ease with which users can learn, navigate, and efficiently interact with the system to achieve their objectives. It encompasses the design, functionality, and overall user experience of the system.

System Quality Attribute

As a system quality attribute, usability ensures that the system is user-friendly, intuitive, and accessible, allowing users to effectively and efficiently achieve their goals.

Key Aspects:

  • Learnability: How easy it is for new users to understand and begin using the system.
  • Efficiency: The speed and ease with which users can complete tasks once they have learned the system.
  • Satisfaction: The degree to which users are satisfied with the system, including their comfort and perceived utility.

Non-Functional Requirement

As a non-functional requirement (NFR), usability defines the standards and criteria for creating a user-friendly system. It specifies how the system should be designed to be easy to learn, efficient to use, and satisfying for users.

It includes the efficiency, effectiveness, learnability, and overall user satisfaction with the technology. A usable technology is intuitive, well-organized, and requires minimal effort to operate.
