There is no rush, because zipped bundle already nice and working fine, but appimage distribution make your software shine and look fashionable :) This link may give some info https://github.com/AppImage/AppImageKit/wiki/Bundling-Java-apps

had another deepdive into this. good example of a project implementing this: https://github.com/CodeDead/opal
unfortunately does not run on WSL:

fuse: device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first
open dir error: No such file or directory

Will keep issue open in case another build environment is created
