Equivalent of visualization.draw_geometries_with_editing that returns something?

On the face of it, visualization.draw_geometries_with_editing is a nice bit of code.
However, it returns nothing. Any result of using it, you must manually enter a file name in a dialog box.

Is there an equivalent sort of function that returns the selected pointcloud, or the indexes of the selected
points (the latter would be the best option from my point of view).
