Z20 needed #4661
Comments
This seems to be about a number of different points:
Please feel welcome to comment on any of the issues linked to above with arguments to re-open or other comments - like specific implementation suggestions from the french style. |
Thanks for your answer. As you answered I think you could improve level Z19 to prepare the answer of OSMF to push Z20. |
Rendering the style at Z20 is something that I've been advocating for myself. That said, IMO it makes more sense to request the OSMF implement it regardless of what is or isn't currently rendered at Z19. Otherwise there's two possible problems 1. Everything you "improved" at Z19 has to be re-discussed and re-implemented once Z20 is 2. If the OSMF rejects the idea then you've essentially turned Z19 into a dumping ground for a bunch of random tags that wouldn't have been viable to render otherwise because they just add clutter to the map. |
This is a duplicate of other issues, and previous requests for adding support for z20 and z21 were closed in #3686 and #4145 We would welcome any new contributors who would like to improve the rendering at z19 (which has only been worked on in a limited fashion) and add more rendering adjustments at z20. Please submit a PR with any specific ideas. |
Noticed that the above sample is not from the french style or from a different branch on https://github.com/cquest/osmfr-cartocss. Are those modifications public? CC @cquest. So far the specific designs at z20+ in the french style seem to be:

Expected behavior
I contribute in south of France and we have reached a high level of details. This is why the classic rendering of osm.org isn't enough for us. I wish to improve the data quality for disabled people and a higher level of zoom is welcome. By this way we would be able to display more POI like street lamp, parking space for disabled,..
Actual behavior
At Z19 sidewalks are quite difficult to see because too narrow to the main road.
Screenshots with links illustrating the problem
Christian Quest pushed a similar rendering than osm.org but with french details (local logos).
In the picture I show with a red circle : street lamp, crossing, disabled parking. The map is centered in Orange,France where I live
