ANNOUNCEMENT: In search of a maintainer for Frappe Books #775
Comments
Hi @18alantom, First of all, its sad to see you go as I loved frappe books and have been using it as a primary accounting software for my agency; with you going out I am definitely worried for this software to become obsolete though I am equally hopeful this will not happen. I have some questions in my mind which any maintainer will like to be answered:
|
Thanks for the questions @njmulsqb I'll try my best to answer them, but they might vary after having been written.
Tech-wise, the maintainer should have a decent understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript, reasonably familiar with frontend development. Ideally, strong understanding of TypeScript, Vue.js, Electron but I think these things could be picked up. Someone who doesn't shy away from diving down the call stack and figuring out how things work. Non-tech-wise, helping users out on the Telegram group, and GitHub issues. Ideally quick response times.
Ideally it would be full-time. We want someone to not just keep it alive, but to also push it forward.
Someone with vested interest in pushing the project forward and who can lend direction to the project, as opposed to just keeping it going. The maintainer will be granted autonomy over the project, and so should be comfortable with taking on the responsibility of calling the shots.
Depends on how involved the candidate is willing to be.
No. Maintainer-ship doesn't imply a transfer of ownership, they'd have to buy Frappe Books for that. |
Closing this as Mildred Ki'Lya and Isaac-GC have volunteered to maintain Frappe Books in an effort to keep the project alive. |
Due to personal reasons Isaac-GC is unable to continue being a maintainer, and Mildred Ki'Lya hasn't been active on this repo for a quite a while (attempts at contact have been met with no response). Hence, reopening this. |
Hi @18alantom me and my team, we are working on this project recently, due some internal needs! We would take the reponsability to maintain that application, but we need some questions clarified! Can we get in touch to make some alignments? |
@MaxMorais sure, we can get in touch. You can message me on Telegram. |
Hi @18alantom if you are still looking for a maintainer, I would like chip in. |
Closing this cause Wahni have taken over development. |
Frappe is searching for someone who is capable of and would like to drive and maintain Frappe Books.
I worked on Frappe Books for around 2 years, and now due to shifting interests, I have decided to move onto a different project. This is a call out for the next maintainer of Frappe Books.
In the time that I've spent working on Frappe Books, it has grown in many ways, and it will continue to grow even after me. Here are a few numbers to illustrate this:
Community: from 0 to over 500 members. Source (Frappe Books Telegram group).
Downloads: from 0 to over 9,000 downloads per month
Users: from 0 to over 1,300 monthly active users
Repo Popularity: from ~1,200 to over 2,350 stars on GitHub
Frappe Books has massive potential. Perhaps enough to even dethrone incumbents in the personal accounting space.
Having said that, it is also one of those projects that requires serious persistence for it to reach wide success.
We are putting out this message in an effort to find someone who believes they are up to the task of pushing Frappe Books to its potential.
