Point Generation and Rendering Demo
Andreas Bærentzen 2005
----
This package contains source code for point generation and rendering.
Note that it is a simple proof of concept application: To avoid the overhead
of having to load a model, I simply create the points from two triangles.
This means that it is fairly easy to see holes when the points are thinned
since the triangles are fairly large. It works better for complex structures
such as trees, bushes etc.
The applications are in
AppSrc/PointImpostors. The most important source code is in
LibSrc/LDI/create_ldi.cpp
COMPILATION ON UNICES
This code should compile with few modifications on UNIX platforms with
gcc and gmake. Try simply typing make from the directory containing this
file. The programs will be put in bin
COMPILATION ON WINDOWS
I have made a visual studio solution for .NET. Hopefully it will work for you.
I suggest you run the programs from the command line. The programs will be put
in bin.
PROGRAMS
pointgen - generates a set of points stored in "out.pts" from two triangles
pointviewer - used to view these points. REMEMBER "out.pts" as (the only)
argument
REMEMBER TO DISABLE ANTIALIASING WHEN RUNNING POINTGEN
DEPENDENCIES
I have tried to minimize dependencies, but it is hard. As a minimum, you will
need
1. OpenGL
2. GLUT
3. GLEW - the extension wrangler in order to handle OpenGL extensions
http://glew.sourceforge.net/
4. GLUI - A quick and dirty but effective use interface toolkit.
http://glui.sourceforge.net/
Hopefully the first two are installed by default on your system. The last two are
included in this package
