Kibana version:
6.4

Elasticsearch version:
6.4

Server OS version:
Windows 2012

Browser version:
Chrome

Browser OS version:
Windows 10

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.):
MSI

Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior:
When creating a new Visual Builder Viz it's always empty. No matter which index we choose or how wide the time span no count data is returned.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click Vizualize
  2. Click +
  3. Click Visual Builder
  4. Nothing is shown (a flat zero count line):

If we click through the "Panel Options" and "Annotations" tabs a few times something is shown and it starts to work normally.

It also doesn't always pick up the timestamp field on some indices although Kibana knows them.

Browser console:

@cawoodm I think this is a possible issue related to this one: #22931
Could you please check the following:

  • when you created the visual builder visualization, could you check if the information about an index pattern is visualized in the index pattern field of the Panel Options tab?
  • could you check if the time fields selector is populated or not?
  • could you check if, after changing the time picker, the time fields selector is populated?
    Thanks

  1. Yes, we see the index pattern:

  2. Nope, no time field is selected (see above).
  3. Yes, when I select timestamp I start to see life:

Just so you know: our index has the time filter defined properly:
