It is currently hardcoded — 30 fps for GNOME but only 6 for Plasma because the media player widget flickers badly otherwise. It would be great to find some solution or a workaround.

The media player currently does flicker quite badly for me even at 6 fps; I have to lower it to 3 fps to become usable :(

Personally I think 1 FPS makes the most sense to me, as a ticking timer after all...

Could you please share your hardware and software info? I.e. CPU/GPU, Plasma version
1 fps makes sense for me too, I'll think about replacing the "low fps" switch with a "1 fps" one

It is "1 fps" mode now and it's on by default for everything except GNOME
