Using ApolloClient uploads not working with graphql-yoga

I'm trying to get graphql-yoga to work with our frontend using ApolloClient. We use createUploadLink, but the server returns an error:

Variable "$data" got invalid value {} at "data.image.upload"; Upload value invalid.

Any tips on how to get file uploads to work?
