We probably need to be on the same page in terms of the overall style and direction of the reboot. This is the place for debating it, and I'm definitely open to ideas. For myself:
I think we should focus on providing non-historical alternatives and good gameplay. For a long time we've gone back and forth between trying to please the more hardcore portion of our base, and the more casual majority that just wants to have fun. There are mods much better suited for the hardcore audience, and 56 has never been a good fit for that side. We should embrace the character of the mod and focus on what we're good at.
That being said, having a solid historical base is important so that those alternative history scenarios have some weight to them.
Also, it's important to me that the mod keeps a sense of humor and not really of the meme variety. It's kind of made me sad when I hear users saying we have memes in our mod. We don't. We have jokes for the team, and just clever or fun things that different people have done. None of it, so far as I know, was pulled from the net (aside from the cat mod?). Having original humor, for the most part, is probably the way to go. As before, most of it should be hidden or fairly subtle - and gated behind the EE events.
Just because we're focused on alternative history and having a good sense of humor doesn't mean we should be sloppy or crazy with it. I've seen some of those mods, where it's just a collection of memes and super OP trees. Maybe that's how some people perceive 56, but I don't want us to ever really be that.
So what do you guys think?

I'd agree with most of what you said here. I do think having a historical base is important. Stuff like having the AI doing what was done in real-life (somewhat). But to me, 56 has always been - historical focuses off and let's see what crazy stuff happens!
