BLD, MAINT: MacOS source build error for darshan-util

Noticed on an x86 Mac laptop while onboarding Yaris.

• ./prepare.sh

Regenerating build files...
aclocal: error: aclocal: file '/usr/local/share/aclocal/progtest.m4' does not exist
autoreconf: error: aclocal failed with exit status: 1

Perhaps we can come up with a more helpful traceback/suggestion for what to do here? For example, is there something wrong with the autotools or m4 install here?

This is not reproducible on my Apple Silicon laptop, which most likely has some more recent tools installed, but anyway an error message that provides a clearer route to a solution would be most helpful here.
