Why can't the node I built keep up with the latest block data? #238
Comments
What do I need to do to solve this problem? thank |
You're --cache setting is low ? Which might be for not having enough RAM in your machine ? |
2000 maxpeers.. is this possible? I thought about 200? |
This has always pointed to resources issues. What are the specs of your hardware? With the massive amount of transactions per block, IOPS is king; you'll need to use NVMe drive(s), SATA SSDs won't cut it. |
Same issue here. @DefiDebauchery in my case it's running on an AWS c5.9xlarge instance with 36 CPU cores, 72GB of RAM and a gp3 volume with 8000 IOPS and 500Mbps throughput. I'm having a hard time explaining how it doesn't meet ressources requirements!? Do you you have any advice? |
@pybfinger - 8000 IOPS is pretty slow. A traditional SATA-based SSD runs between 80 - 100K IOPS. You need more. The tasks are IO-bound - no amount of raw CPU or RAM will compensate for the required workload of constantly writing to the LevelDB database files on disk (unless #233 is a problem that can be solved) |
@DefiDebauchery Yea so I downgraded the instance to 8 cores and 64GB RAM. Gp3 is now 16000 IOPS and 250Mb throughput. I was able to get my node synced. I simply deleted the whole data folder and restarted full sync. Maybe something happened first time!? Or it's the fact I doubled IOPS. @520guanyu Your config seems fine to me. Try upgrading to v1.1.0-beta and do a full sync. Took me about 5 hours and it was working. As explained above, if you're in the cloud (AWS or Google) make sure your IOPS is large enough on the volume used for data. |
@pybfinger - Thank you for the datapoint! Being able to sync on 16K IOPS may provide good guidance for others; I was expecting that to require more. |
What is my problem? I used the snapshot first and then switched it to syncmode=fast.I think it syncs very slowly. config` [Eth.Miner] [Eth.TxPool] [Eth.GPO] [Node] [Node.P2P] [Node.HTTPTimeouts] [Node.LogConfig] geth version

Why can't the node I created keep up with the latest block data? Always differ by about 100 blocks.
