In March 2015, the IETF published the RFCs for the Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP), a successor protocol for Whois. This new specification is the product of collaboration from the Internet community including staff from ICANN and the RIRs. Many Domain Name Registries are preparing their RDAP service implementations to fulfill their contract obligations with ICANN, IANA has already begun published RDAP bootstrap files, and the RIRs will soon move their RDAP pilot services into production. LACNIC is the first registry to have deployed RDAP, APNIC has already declared their service production ready, and ARIN’s production deployment of RDAP is scheduled for late June of this year.
