Thank you so much for making such an amazing application. It's very well thought out.
I had some suggestions regarding the goals section.
Please consider adding a screen to allocate different percentages of each available asset to different goals.
This will result in a one to many mapping from assets to goals.
In the ledger file, right now I am allocating assets to different accounts (ex: Assets:Equity:PPFC:G1, Assets:Equity:UTIN50:G1) and Goal 1 is associated with accounts Assets:Equity:*:G1. Having a separate screen to do this will make this much simpler. The screen can allow the user to allocate a fixed percentage or can automatically calculate the percentage based on the ratios between the SIPs needed to achieve that goal (part of point#3 below).
To achieve a goal, one common advice is to invest in equity and moving the money from equity to debt a few years before the goal's target date. We can plan this in the application if the app allows us to specify future plans for each asset under a goal.
For example, for a goal with duration of 10 years, I might want to keep the money in an equity asset for 7 years and then move it to a debt asset for the remaining 3 years.
The application can show future projections of the assets under the goals if the above plan is followed. Adding this will allow the users to more easily estimate future worth of the assets under the goals and if they will be able to achieve it.
Using the point#2, the application can calculate the SIP needed for each asset under each goal. It can then show the user a sum of all the SIPs needed for each asset across all the goals.
For example, let's say that 60% of my PPFC investments are tagged to goal G1 and another 40% to G2. The system can calculate the SIP needed in PPFC for both G1 & G2. It can then sum these 2 numbers and show me the total amount of money that I need to put in PPFC each month.
This will give the users clarity on how much they need to invest and when they should move money from equity to debt.
For example, let's say that G1 (1Cr in 20Y) = 50% A1 + 30% A2 + 20% A3. (G1=Goal 1, An=Asset n). Assume that the average annual return of this composition of assets is 15%. The total SIP for this goal comes to Rs 7073. Now, we can invest Rs 3536.5 in A1, Rs 2121.9 in A2, Rs 1414.6 in A3.
The system can then aggregate the amounts in all the assets across the goals giving the user an idea of how much he/she should aim to invest each month.
I haven't found any application which provides features for such granular goal planning and visualisation. In my opinion, these will be great value additions to the Paisa app.
