I used to get my custom folder whenever I opened Brackets and the files I recently opened. Now whenever I start Brackets, I just get the 'Getting started' folder and the index.html file in it.
Any way to change this?
And the font size always changes back to the default size when it used to be the size I used last.

Hi @wellbornduke!

Could you please provide more information about your setup?

  • Brackets Version
  • OS / Version

Ofcourse.
Just downloaded and installed sprint 40 and I'm using Windows 8.1.
It did work before on Windows 8.1, but since I got the message in Brackets to update to sprint 40 it started

@wellbornduke Can you go to the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Brackets and make sure you have write permissions on the state.json file?

If so, can you try these steps:

  1. Launch Brackets
  2. Use File > Open Folder (or the sidebar's dropdown list of recent projects) to open the project you want to work on -- I assume this is how you switch away from the Getting Started project normally, right?
  3. Select Debug > Show Developer Tools and go to the Console tab
  4. If there are any errors, expand them to show the stack trace and then copy-paste here (or into a gist)

Thanks!

There is absolutely nothing in that .json file. Only a lot of spaces.

And when I open the developer tools and go to the console tab this is what I get:

(I'm new to this site, so I wasn't sure how to show it properly)

Could #8115 possibly be related to this?

Could be. Seems the same thing. Do you know a solution? Can't seem to find a fix for it right now

Sorry for the delay, @wellbornduke.

Try to rename or remove C:/Users/caitl_000/AppData/Roaming/Brackets/state.json. Don’t know if it’s a solution, though.

@sbruchmann That did the trick! Thank you so much! :)

@wellbornduke Glad to hear that it worked out for you!

@peterflynn Seems like this is a good fit for the Troubleshooting wiki page, isn’t it?

Reviewed - to me, medium for the current cycle. We should investigate since there have been a couple worrisome reports similar to this.

@sbruchmann @peterflynn I added a Preferences are Not Saved section. This is basically the same as the Clear the Cache section, but that's under Can't Launch Brackets, so it might be skipped over.

@pthiess pthiess removed this from the Brackets 1.0 (Release 0.45) milestone Oct 20, 2014

Taking the milestone off since we need a reproducible recipe. We also made some changes which may have fixed this.

Reviewed. We don't have anything new to go on here and I vaguely remember there being changes to recent projects recently. I'm going to close this. If someone else runs into this problem, please open a new bug and we can actively track this down.
