Notice how the canvas scales back to 100% and then immediately animates to the right while backing. There are other janky animations when entering/exiting the edit layout, too. We should fix them and make them smoother.

@jeryj @ajlende I think you were recently looking at animating the zoom level. Are you able to add any further context here or a suggestion for an improvement?

This would be great to fix if possible, but I agree on the low priority tag.

We are now at RC3 and there's not been any movement on this bug. I think given it's low impact we should feel comfortable punting this to 6.8.

What do you think @colorful-tones @ndiego @kevin940726?
