Site Editor: address the inability to use keyboard shortcuts without focus #52881
Comments
I can confirm I've tested and recreated this behaviour in both 6.2.2 and also 6.3 RC1 |
This is a known issue with keyboard shortcuts and is not specific to Commands. The editor has to have a "focus" for shortcuts to work. There's a similar issue with Disctraion Free mode - #45151 (review). |
@Mamaduka is there any overarching issue we can link to? If not, let's turn this one into that. Going to remove from UX & Polish as this isn't a straightforward fix if so. |
@annezazu, I don't believe so. Let's turn this one into that or create a new, |
Please feel free to edit the OP as needed :) |
Renamed for now :D |
I wouldn't call this a bug so I removed the label. |

In the vide above, please notice the keypresses marked bottom-center.
It's only possible to invoke cmdk when focus resides in the viewport. In other words you either need to press tab, or click somewhere in the window before you can access the Command Palette via keyboard.
I don't know if there's anything we can do about this, but it's a bit unexpected and makes the cmdk experience feel a little clunky.
