How to do incident relations?

We had a meeting discussing other possibilities:

We agree that the (unused) tables we have for connecting incidents to other incidents are lacking.

1. What is implemented and unused today. "type" is important, do we allow both PARENT and CHILD? Then the same problem can be modeled two different ways.
2. Get rid of "type" and make one incident the cause of another, with optional extra info
3. Point incident to a group and point the group to the incident that is the cause
4. Simplest possible relation

There are other possible structures.

All will allow an incident to be in multiple groups since a root cause can have a root cause...

We need to figure out what the actual needs are.
