<h2>The 6th IPSJ International AI Programming Contest: SamurAI Coding 2017-18</h2>
</header>
<p>As the Internet industry, IoT and Artificial Intelligence technologies rapidly grow, there is an intensifying need for high quality engineers and programmers.
Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) conducted the International AI programming Contest "SamurAI Coding" in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016,
aiming to cultivate the younger generation so they can become leading researchers,
developers and successful on global level
(<a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/samuraicoding/2013/2012photos.html">1st SamurAI Coding Final Photos in 2012</a>, <a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/samuraicoding/2013/final-result-jp.html">2nd Final Results in 2013</a>,
<a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/samuraicoding/2014-15/">Results in 2014-15</a>,
<a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/samuraicoding/2015-16/">Results in 2015-16</a>,
and
<a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/samuraicoding/2016-17/">Results in 2016-17</a>).
<p>The 6th SamurAI Coding will be held between October 2017 and March 2018.
Contestants will compete with each other over their engineering skills for AI and programming.
Winners of the preliminary round will move on to the final round, which will be held on 14th March 2018 collocated with the <a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/taikai/80/">80th IPSJ National Convention</a> at <a href="https://www.waseda.jp/fsci/en/access/">Waseda University, Nishiwaseda Campus, Tokyo</a>.
Participating engineers and programmers will be able to demonstrate their skills on a global level through this contest.</p>

Note that the participation in the Practice Round is NOT mandatory for entry to the contest; however, the registration via the Registration Form is mandatory for entry to the contest.

When we published the result of the Practice Round #1 on the <a href="https://trial.samuraicoding.info/contests/1">Submission Trial Page</a> at 4:50am Jan 30 (JST), the e-mail addresses of the registrants of the Practice Round #1 were mistakenly displayed. This inappropriate status continued until our staff noticed it and updated the web page at 11:50am same date (JST). This problem has been fixed now.

We think that this incident was caused by our insufficient management of checking web pages before publishing. To prevent any more such incidents, we will strengthen our management system considering the confidentiality of personal information. We deeply apologize for everyone who has suffered from this incident. <h2>Registration and Submission</h2>
<p>There is no age limit. Moreover contestants can participate in the contest as individual or team; there is no maximum number of team members.</p>

<b>For Preliminary round contestants (including World Finalists): </b>
</p>
<p>
Preliminary round contestants are invited to Banquet on the World final round date on a first-come,
first-served basis; the number of Banquet participants is limited (TBD).
</p>
<p>
Students can freely attend sessions of the <a href="http://www.ipsj.or.jp/event/taikai/80/">80th IPSJ Annual Convention by register themselves at the Convention site</a>. (TBD)
</p>
<p><b>For World Finalists: </b></p>
<p>
Winners of World Final will receive prizes. Moreover there will be some Sponsor Awards and Gifts (TBD).
</p>
<p>
World Final contestants who are not IPSJ members will receive one-year IPSJ membership without any entry fee and annual fee. (The entry fee is originally necessary for IPSJ regular members.)
</p>
<p>
Travel expense of one representative contestanst per each World final team participating
from far away areas will be partially supported (TBD).
Last year World final contestants from out side of Japan received travel expenses up
to 100,000JPY per team,
and contestants from a long distance within Japan received full travel expenses.
</p>
<p>
All World Final contestants will be presented on the contest site.
</p>
<p>
A few top teams at World Final will be selected as candidates of future IPSJ-IEEE Computer Society Joint Award recipients.

<h2>Game and AI</h2>
<p>Contestants compete on their design and engineering skills of
algorithms and AI strategies in addition to programming skills.

SamurAI Jockey is a game played by two players.
Two players controlled by AI programs, changing their positions step by step,
compete for time to goal in a course with obstacles.

<p>Contestants can choose a certain programming language among various major languages. </p>
