# Project description

Sometimes it's needed to have a little more than a slug line about Home Assistant. 

Home Assistant is a home automation platform running on Python 3. The goal of Home Assistant is to be able to track and control all devices at home and offer a platform for automating control.

Home Assistant is an Open Source Home automation platform. It's written in Python 3, doesn't require the usage of the cloud, and can be run on cheap single board computers. Various devices can be controlled and automated. The heating, the lighting, media players or automatic shutters in the house or apartment can be controlled as required or other circumstances. This means that, for example, the heating system is switched on when the workplace is left in the evening or the living room lamp is switched on and the shutters are closed when it gets dark outside and someone is at home.
There is broad support for devices such as hubs, cameras, hi-fi components and televisions, mechanical locks, gates and doors, calendars or vacuum cleaners, which can be purchased from the market. Among the nearly 700 integrations are web services for weather, exchange information or public transport, voice control and text-to-speech. Users have the choice of a wide variety of types of notifications that inform them about events and conditions in their home.
Automation provides the functionality to respond to changes with actions. Digital, numeric and time-based or location-based triggers are available so that the existing devices can be switched on, off or controlled, taking into account optional conditions. The manual control can be accomplished with the aid of a modern web interface.
Home Assistant is now more than three years old and is under the Apache Software License. The steadily growing community ensures a constant further development, new integrations, and offers fast help with installation and configuration problems.

Home Assistant ist eine Open source Heim-Automatisierungsplatform, welche in Python geschrieben ist und ohne Cloud auskommt. Unterschiedlichste Geräte lassen sich kontrollieren und automatisieren. Die Heizung, die Beleuchtung, Mediaplayer oder automatische Rollläden im Haus oder der Wohnung können nach Bedarf oder anderen Gegebenheiten gesteuert werden. Das heisst, dass beispielsweise die Heizung eingeschaltet wird, wenn der Arbeitsplatz am Abend verlassen wird oder die Wohnzimmer-Lampe sich einschaltet und die Rollläden geschlossen werden, wenn es draussen dunkel wird und jemand zu Hause ist.
Es besteht eine breite Unterstützung für Geräte, wie Hubs, Kamera, HiFi-Komponenten und Fernseher, mechanische Schlösser, Tore und Türen, Kalender oder Staubsauger, welche sich im Handel kaufen lassen. Unter den fast 700 Integrationen sind jedoch auch Web-Dienste für Wetter, Börsen-Informationen oder des öffentlichen Verkehrs, Sprachsteuerung und Text-to-speech vorhanden. Anwender haben die Wahl von unterschiedlichsten Typen von Benachrichtigungen, welche sie über Ereignisse und Zustände in ihrem Heim informieren. 
Die Automatisierung liefert die Funktionalität, um auf Änderungen mit Aktionen zu reagieren. Digitale, numerische und zeit- oder standort-basierende Auslöser stehen zur Verfügung, so dass unter Berücksichtigung von optionalen Konditionen sich die vorhandenen Geräte ein-, ausschalten oder regeln lassen. Die manuelle Steuerung kann mit Hilfe eines modernen Web-Interface bewerkstelligt werden. 
Home Assistant ist mittlerweile etwas mehr als drei Jahre alt und steht unter der Apache Software Lizenz. Die stetig wachsende Community sorgt für eine konstante Weiterentwicklung, neue Integrationen und biete schnelle Hilfe bei Installations- und Konfigurationsproblemen.
