Currently, squash_sites places any node south of a chosen site at the root level. But in cases where we want a node itself and its sub-nodes to be moved to root level, there isn't really a way to do that. It would make the most sense to either have squash_sites place its nodes at root level, or to add a functionality like promote_sites to do what we are looking for here.
