Start new site

Hello,

I'm have an old install in 4.8.0, and I would like to start a new fresh install in release 5.0.0.
But I don't understand the difference between your 2 repo : https://github.com/wowchemy/wowchemy-hugo-modules and https://github.com/wowchemy/starter-academic
The first repo has multiples release and the second one have no release, only master branch...

The first time, I've installed my website using netlify, it was easy but upgrade to a newer version was horrible because netlify does not start from specific version, it take the master branch ...
Now I would like to start a new site (deployed by netlify) but with a specific version for future upgrade.

How can I do ?

The main big difference between v4.8 and later versions is the introduction of Hugo modules (Go modules). This means that you won't have a local themes folder anymore. The theme comes bundled as a Hugo module.
The starter-academic repo is meant as a starting point for building a site, just as all the other "starter" repos. wowchemy-hugo-modules holds (as the name suggests) the modules that make up Wowchemy (former Academic).
If you look at the content of the starter-academic repo you'll notice that it contains a file called go.mod. This file sets which version of the wowchemy theme you're using. The last 12 digits in the two required modules is a reference to the commit in the main branch.
Updating the theme is now done by updating the reference in go.mod, which can be done by hugo mod get -u or by running update_wowchemy.sh.
