404 Page not found on talk automatically generated pages (incl. talks and papers)

On my academic webpage I'm getting a '404 page not found error' when I try to navigate to any of my talks (the page automatically generated from the given data of talk title, abstract, date etc.). The same happens for the pages automatically generated for my research papers.

This doesn't happen when I run 'hugo server' and try the pages in localhost: 1313. Because of this, I can't think of what I error I could be making on my end that'd mean it works on the local version but not online.

Academic Version: 4.3.1
Hugo Version: 0.76.4
Browser/OS: Firefox, Ubuntu18.04 (and Win10).

Make sure to end your baseurl be with a trailing /

Many thanks for your comment. I notice that I hadn't done this before, but after just removing the baseurl (changing it to "") it seems to now be working. Maybe it's only working because of some bad choices of settings I have elsewhere... is there a good reason for me making my baseurl <USERNAME>.github.io, as suggested on this page, or should I just leave it now it works?
