As an educator, I often use GitBook to create course materials and exercises for students. A common challenge is providing images or diagrams as part of an explanation or solution, while still encouraging students to attempt solving the problem themselves before viewing the image.
Adding a “spoiler” option for images would allow instructors to mark certain images as hidden by default. Students could then click or interact with the hidden image to reveal it when they are ready. This would create a more engaging and self-directed learning experience.
Benefits:
• Encourages students to attempt exercises independently before resorting to visual aids.
• Provides a better learning experience by reducing unintentional exposure to hints/solutions.
• Makes GitBook more versatile for educational use cases, particularly for courses in problem-solving, programming, and design.
Use Case Example:
In a programming exercise, I want students to try writing a piece of code based on the problem description. The solution diagram or flowchart is attached as an image, but I don’t want it to be visible immediately. With a spoiler option, students can attempt the problem first and then reveal the solution when they feel ready.
Thank you for considering this request! This feature would greatly enhance GitBook’s utility for educational content creators.
