Just throw one of these closest to usb port for esd prot

Then tack on a 500ma hold 1a trip polyfuse after the esd chip and the board is protected against most things

So the chain order goes USB -> esd prot chip -> ptc fuse -> mcu cluster
(for vcc)
If there's a static discharge, the esd chip handles it first before blowing up anything else
If there's a substantial overcurrent that isn't enough to trip the esd protection, the ptc fuse kicks in
