Dear all,

as anticipated on Gitter, I have just created this repo with the purpose to collect the best of our (your) Fortran practices. I think (and also @zbeekman does, at least) that having a collaborative and shared document could be very helpful for us. Indeed, I would be very happy to "capture" your experiences that are very interesting for me in order to learn and improve my presently worst-practices.

However, I know that such a topic is a matter of possible hurting: conventions/practices/guidelines could be very personal. I hope that this tentative does not hurt you: as I said, I have a very personal (possibly wrong) practices, but I do not like you think I am trying to convey you on them. On the contrary, I hope you can help me to change my mind. As a consequence, I will leave this repo almost empty, with the hope that the discussions with you will generate the actual contents.

Here, I would like to count how many of your are interested on this topic. Feel free to completely ignore this, but in case you are interested to discuss here, please consider to add 👍 below 😄

Cheers.

👍 🎉 🙇

I must add, however, that I may be a somewhat worthless contributor over the next few months, but I'll do my best to stay involved. I currently have a ton of balls in the air and need to make sure I don't drop any of those before adding another one. ⚽

@zbeekman do not worry, as all other group's works, we can contribute in a very sparse approach, I am just happy to think you are here with your soul 😄

I think this can be an interesting and useful discussion and I'm willing to voice my own opinions on the topic (I've been at this for a very long time). I'm actually in the process of documenting style/best practices for the work project I lead (shortly to be publicly accessible at https://github.com/truchas)

My situation si the same as @zbeekman. I am pretty overwhelmed with commitments most of the time, but it's great to see this forum and I'll keep an eye on it as time allows. I might go silent for long stretches, but I usually at least skim everything that comes my way and contribute occasionally when possible.
