Using 23, 24 and 25 to mean X, Y and MT assumes there are no more than 22 autosomes, which is valid for human data but not necessarily for other species.
It would be advisable to make the file format usable in contexts other than human, by avoiding such a potential clash, and by stating the species in the metadata.
