The Visualizer doesn't seem to work on nexus 5x when there was song played on background, the same problem was seen on samsung devices. Also i saw E/Audio record -38 on logcat.

You should read Readme file. There you will see the Troubleshooting section that leads to this answer. It's possible that Visualizer will not work on certain devices. Especially if you're trying to visualize mixed output by passing 0 as audio session ID. In most cases to fix this issue you need to specify audio session ID and avoid using 0.
