use OrbitDB 0.19.9 which has important bug fixes and support for IPFS 0.30
use IPFS 0.31, which does not have any breaking change and just works with OrbitDB. The Already piped error and friends should be gone now
use the new raw leaves feature when storing protobuf
make sure pinning is working
make sure preloading is disabled
make sure the connection manager is not causing problems
