In RPM specs we are documenting the source provenance (sources have a Doc method on them) so that people consuming the rpm spec can see where the source came from.

We are not currently doing this in deb package builds, but there does seem to be a decent place to do this in debian/README.Debian https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/dother.en.html#readme
