As a general user who has previously used lists.ala I want to upload a list of species but none of the list type options are what I want. I think I wanted “Local checklist list” but I am not sure. To me this is weirdly worded. Things that make sense to me “Other list”, “General list”, “Species list”, “Taxa list”. Can we get definitions for these, icons, hover over text, something.

Also it be my misunderstanding but isn’t “Traits” the same as “Species characters”. Also, all other options have “list” appended and at a glance consistency would suggest its inclusion for all.

Task

  • Add easily accessible definitions for each list type.
  • Sort the list types in the dropdown alphabetically.

Suggested approach

  • When you hover the mouse over the list type item, a popup with a description is show.
  • A link at the top of the page (?) that opens a new tab to the article that instructs how to create a new list. This article includes these definitions.

Lists Project Team to define types in consultation with ALA more broadly - both the list types themselves and clear definition / description for each
