I am creating my own data set on my local machine. When I share it I export, email, then the recipient loads it and then we discuss. If I were to save my database to a drop box or network resource, is there a way to add the refresh-and-grab-latest-data option to home-made databases?

Thanks for your feature request!
This feature is not yet available and can certainly be very interesting for user-created databases. I will put it on the to-do list for future updates. However, it will not be released with the following (upcoming) version.
