Enhancement I think this would make Arctos even awesomer!

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

We can find geography by spatial data. (Sorta/sometimes, see #4755.) There are no tools to do this. There should be, maybe.

Describe what you're trying to accomplish

Save work where possible.

Describe the solution you'd like

Possibilities:

  • New lookup service, input spatial data (eg coordinates + error), output smallest containing geography.
  • Change documentation - use no specific higher geography (from HG Authority Change for "no higher geography recorded" #4703) and don't worry about asserting geography when there's spatial data. ("Place terms" still make things discoverable by string-geography.)
  • New (fake) value in catalog record bulkloader - accept 'just_use_best_match' (some string that's not actually higher_geography) in higher_geog, find appropriate geography on the fly.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Kludge on.

Additional context

Needs discussion. Do we actually get data with coordinates and without geography, are we comfortable with any of the above, ???? Let's don't build things that won't get used, and lets focus on building things that will.

Priority

Might be high for the next new collection, but not stopping me from doing anything.

Don't think this is necessary in the current model, just assert 'not saying' with decent coordinates and Arctos will figure it out.

undeadenating this per conversation with @mkoo - might be some use case for magicking assertive geography

Don't think this can make sense under the current (separated admin and spatial) model so closing, but possibly documentation should be updated: a good georeference and "we prefer not to say" geography is still discoverable by place terms via spatial data.
